ABSTRACT

Benign prostatic hypertrophy [BPH]. The most common benign tumour in men, is responsible for urinary symptoms in the majority of men older than 50 years of age. It affects economically and quality of life. BPH is not a fatal disease. But it affects quality of life and has repurcussions on individual, social and economic lives. Apart from it BPH may result in reduction in sexual ability, painful orgasm and impotency. In this clinical study saw palmetto berry, a herbal drug which was used as a 85% fatty acid extract in the form of prepared marketed soft gel capsule [PROSTONIL] for the patients of symptoms of BPH. The study was conducted in Ajmal Khan Tibbia College and Hospital, AMU, Aligarh, on fifty patients. Pre and post-treatment patients were evaluated for maximum [peak] flow rate which was measured by uroflowmetry after giving three months duration of phytotherapy, patients were again evaluated for maximum [peak] flow rate of uroflowmetry. After completion of the follow up, the study showed no improvement in maximum [peak] flow rate of uroflowmetry also with no improvement in the symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy

ABSTRACT

Sharbat Buzoori Motadil [SBM] is in use since long for various urinary tract diseases. Besides, it is also recommended for the treatment of fever and liver diseases. In present study SBM was evaluated for its diuretic and alkalinizing effects and efficacy was compared with a standard drug potassium citrate. The study revealed that SBM is an effective diuretic as well as alkalinizing formulation; moreover its safety was proved higher than standard drug regarding the effect on electrolyte as it did not change urine composition and it proved as an iso-osmotic diuretic not dilutor like standard drug. So it is ideal drug for use in CHF

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted in Ajmal Khan Tibbia College Hospital on 23 patients presenting with biliary lithiasis [cholelithiasis with choledocholithiasis]. The duration of study was three years. We found that 65.21% patients were jaundiced or they had history of jaundice. In our study we have seen the result of Unani compound drug Kabdeen as it has been reported to be effective in the treatment of hepatitis. We observed that it is a hepatoprotective, possibly an immunomodulator drug and is helpful in early normalization of post operative deranged liver function and helps in speedy recovery of operated patients

ABSTRACT

Placebo controlled doubled blind study on 64 patients of cholelithiasis to assess the sedative and analgesic efficacy of Barshasha in pre-operative period. The drug was able to increase the duration of sleep and rate pressure product showed a declining trend in pre-operative period. Pre-operatively oral secretions were significantly decreased but no significant alteration was found in cardiovascular parameters. In post-operative period, demand for analgesic was significantly less

ABSTRACT

Cholelithiasis is a disease of extrahepatic biliary system, which constitute hepatic ducts, common hepatic duct, cystic duct, gallbladder and common bile duct. There is no definite etiopathogenesis of this disease. But it has an established relation with 5 F [fatty, fertile, flatulent, female of fifty]. This hypothesis is not proved scientifically. Present paper is an attempt to evaluate the hypothesis of this 5 F. For this purpose we conducted clinical study at out patient department of A.K. Tibbia College Hospital A.M.U., Aligarh. A total of 110 patients were registered and admitted in the in-door patient department. Clinical and socio-economic data were recorded. Out of 110, 101 patients were female, from different sections of the society. In the outcome of the study we found that there was no relation of the etiopathogenesis of cholelithiasis with 5 F. Only one F is found that majority of sufferers are female. We concluded that gall-stone is a disease of multifactorial etiopathogenesis. It is evident that trend is being changed, may be due to environmental effect
